A Spreadsheet Formula Cell can calculate a value. But you can't enter a value into a formula cell, without Erasing the Formula - Breaking the Model. |
Aware Technology Answers - Questions to Ponder What "should
happen" when you enter a value
In Microsoft Excel, Lotus 1-2-3 and Quatro Pro, when you enter a value into a formula cell they erase the formula, which breaks the model, and replace the formula with the value. This outcome is fundamentally "unaware" and a more intelligent response is necessary. The Correct Answer is... The Aware Technology When using the Aware technology in a spreadsheet, the model presumes that a value on a formula cell indicates that you intend to perform an alternative form of analysis. This alternative analysis requires that the model must change into another alternate form in order to calculate a valid result. The current cell becomes an input cell and the what-if analysis is only performed after the the what-if model has been changed. With the adaptation of this new what-if modeling paradigm, i.e., "what-if the model changes first, then the input and result is calcualted," a doorway opens to new perspectives in modeling. With this new perspective come new types of controls over context sensitive events which control the model permutation process. These new controls give users and developers a means to determine desireable ways for the model to change forms to achieve alternative forms of desired results. The implementation of the Aware technology in the Aware spreadsheet provides a variety of examples of the methods and controls to use to select among a number of forms of model permutation to provide you with alternative forms of analysis implicit in your model, but until now, unaccessible. The Aware Spreadsheet is Permutation Enabled and Polymorphic! |
